Backup and new computer
Your data lives only on your computer: if the disk fails, the only copy is the backup you took. Make a habit of taking one often and keeping it off the computer: on a USB stick, an external drive or a cloud you trust.
Taking a backup
- Open Settings → Full dashboard backup box.
- To protect it, tick Protect with a passphrase and type a passphrase.
- Press Export backup. The program saves a file such as
cronowiz-dashboard-2026-10-17.cwbackup, usually in your Downloads folder. - Copy the file to a USB stick, an external drive or a cloud.
The backup contains everything: athletes, sessions, AI reports, plans, settings and the whole gym side (members, subscriptions, schedule, courses, bookings, check-ins).
Restoring a backup
- Open Import (or Settings → Import backup), or drag the file onto the window.
- If the backup is protected, type the passphrase and press Decrypt.
- The program recognises a full backup by itself and restores it: "Dashboard restored".
After a restore, check-in tablets show as "Reconnect": connect them again from Settings → Check-ins.
Moving to a new computer
- On the old computer take a full backup and copy it to a USB stick.
- Still on the old computer, connected to the internet, open License → Transfer to another computer and copy the transfer code.
- On the new computer install cronowiz Studio, accept the terms, choose I have a transfer code and activate.
- Restore the backup from the Import page.
- If you use the entrance tablet, turn on Tablet at the entrance on the new PC, reinstall the Studio certificate on the tablet and connect it again.
The old computer stays available read-only: keep it as an archive or uninstall the program.
A single athlete's backup
In Athlete settings → Export backup (Cronowiz round-trip) you export just one athlete's data, in the format the cronowiz app reads. It is for sending edited plans back to the athlete, not for backing up Studio: use the full backup for that.
